Big Brother - Zoo Style

Being all locked up in cages and all I'm sure the animals at the zoo always feel like they're being watched. But I wonder if some of them have recently felt like they're being watched extra closely, by millions of eyes! If they do feel this way, it may be legit. The National Zoo now has nearly 20 live animal web cams. Check them out (they're usually about halfway down the page, so if you don't see it at first then scroll down a bit):

Since the cameras are live shots sometimes they're filming empty cages (kind of reminds me of the beginning of Jurassic Park). My personal favorite live cam usually has a decent amount of action. It's the ferret cam.

These ferrets are awesome. They attack the camera (creating that even more adorable fisheye ferret look), they chomp each other's ears, step on each other's faces, and generally scurry about all day. Sometimes you'll tune in to see everyone all passed out, but give it a minute and someone will be up and ready to play again.

I've really gotten sucked into the ferret cam and have found myself checking in at least once or twice a day for the past week now. I've enjoyed the cam so much that I wrote a email to the zoo today telling them that I think Puppy Bowl should be replaced with Ferret Bowl this year, and that I'd be happy to start a petition to get the ball rolling on this.

Ferrets are great, people. Great. Now back to the ferret cam.
