Cranking Up the Nom-o-meter

Have you ever eaten something and thought, how did someone come up with this recipe? Sometimes I think that one ingredient must have just fallen into another, and someone went with it. Like bacon pancakes.

I could see it happening. You're making pancakes one Saturday, as one does, and you've made a side of bacon. Maybe you're on the phone, maybe you're still sleepy, maybe you have twitchy hands that accidentally punch things, and suddenly, WHOOPS! You knock your bacon into your pancake batter. At first you're distraught, and then... it dawns on you. THIS IS BRILLIANT.

I believe this is also how frickles, fried candy bars, and the assortment of other fried delights came about out there. One clumsy cook plus one deep fryer equals happy hungry carnival goers.

But okay, sometimes things don't fall into other things. Sometimes things sit next to one another and you think, "Well, that's right next to that, let's combine." I believe this may have been how Christine started eating french fries dipped in McFlurries, and it's definitely how I came up with this last night:

Tortilla chips

Cool Whip

YUM

Seriously. Try it.

I have a feeling that fried candy bars, oreos, mac n' cheese, and frickles, and jalapenos (so good) weren't the accidental invention of clumsy cooks, but more the purposeful invention of carnie gluttons - and perpetuated by Guy Fieri. IMHO, fudge is perhaps the best accident to grace the culinary world. Well, that and yogurt, cheese, and all forms of alcohol. Nope, I don't think anyone accidentally battered a candy bar and fried it thinking it was chicken.

So I trust your excellent taste and next I get the chance I am going to try tortilla chips and whip cream!

There is something wonderful about a sweet and salty combination of foods. Hence the french fries and McFlurry combination or fritos and apple butter combo.
It all sounds gross but people really need to open their minds to wonderful food possibilities! Now I need to come up with some other crazy concoctions....

Scott, sigh, I supposed you're right. But it does bring me joy to imagine someone thinking they're biting into a chicken leg and then BAM! candy bar!

Christine - Oh man, I'd completely forgotten about apple butter and fritos! Soooooooooooo good. We've had some great food times. Banana boats in the oven! Spaghetti tossing on the walls!

My personal favorite food combo that seems gross but is actually delicious is (of course) salsa and cottage cheese! Mmmm. And yes it looks like puke.
