Learning to Run: Day 3
The first day wasn't just a fluke! I was able to drag myself out of bed at 6 am again this morning to go for a run. Crazy, I know. I also know that I'm in the honeymoon period of this, and everyday won't be so easy. But going to the gym has prepared me for that fact. Plus, my wise friend Bethany once told me her philosophy that, "If you go to the gym when you don't want to, it totally counts more," and I chose to agree with her on that.
This morning was just like the first morning: 1 minute running followed by 2 minutes walking, repeated 10 times. I felt it a bit more, with my muscles still recovering from the first day plus the other exercise I've been doing. Monday I ran in the morning, and then took a "Body Flow" class at the gym. I thought the combination of Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates would do me good and stretch me out, and while it definitely did both those things, I think it also worked my muscles a bit more than I had expected. Tuesday was my 30 minute walk day (according to my 8 week plan) and I took care of that during lunch. It was soooo nice to get out of the office and wander around. I suddenly realized that even though I've been working at this job for nearly 4 years now, I stick to a relatively small area when I walk around on my lunch break. Well, this shall have to be remedied. Time to take advantage and explore!
One thing I noticed both on Monday and Tuesday was that I was starving all day. I've always been a pretty small eater, but I think with all of this new found activity I'm going to have to consume more. Which, is kind of great. Just because I don't eat a lot doesn't mean I don't enjoy eating. If you read this blog you know that.
Even though I'm only 3 days in, I'm feeling pretty positive about this program and sticking to it. So positive in fact that I think next week I'm going to a running store to get fitted for fancy running shoes. I hope they have something in pink. :)

Um, totally stealing this plan to get wedding ready. Awesome.....
yeah lis! I'm with you. Now that the weather is getting nice it's time to get out and running.
And a good pair of shoes are crucial. They make those tired gazes down to your feet a booster.
